Kathmandu. Kathmandu: Customs officials of Nepal and India have started talks in Kathmandu with a focus on making foreign trade between the two countries easier and easier and curbing illegal trade and revenue leakage.
Information Officer at the Department of Customs, Narayan Prasad Prasad Prasad, said that discussions would be held on providing preliminary information related to export trade between the customs offices of the two countries in advance, implementing electronic cargo tracking system in freight containers carrying goods coming from third countries via India and exporting goods from Nepal to third countries via India, and further strengthening the quality and quarantine checking system at the border points to check the quality of imported and exported goods. Regmi said.
Discussions will also be held on the issue of recognizing the certificate of origin to be issued electronically through the national one-door system implemented by Nepal, completing the integrated check points under construction in Bhairahawa and Chandani Dodhara within the targeted time frame, and facilitating the quality certification work implemented by India for the export of Nepali products to India.
Mahesh Bhattarai, director general of the Department of Customs, is leading the nepali negotiating team while Abhay Kumar Srivastava, director general of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, is representing India.
Top officials from the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Department of Food Technology and Quality Control, Department of Animal and Horticulture Quarantine, among others, are participating in the talks team.
Assistant Director General of Revenue Intelligence Directorate Lucknow Regional Unit, First Secretary of Embassy of India in Nepal, Heads of Calcutta, Patna, Lucknow Customs Office and other officials are participating in the indian team.
