NADA suggests separate policy provision for electric vehicles

Kathmandu. Kathmandu: The Automobile Association of Nepal has drawn the attention of the insurance regulator to implement provisions related to vehicle insurance to address the needs of electric vehicle owners.

A delegation led by Nada Vice-Chairman Rajan Babu Shrestha drew the attention of the NRA to the insurance policy for electric vehicles during a meeting with Chairman of Nepal Insurance Authority Sharah Ojha at the NRA on Friday.

The association has drawn the attention of the NRA to the lack of specialized insurance policy to address the nature of electric vehicles and the needs of vehicle owners. The Association has pointed out the need to formulate a clear, transparent and consistent policy regarding the insurance of electric vehicles. The delegation also suggested that the NEA should formulate necessary policy regarding battery management, reuse and risk management caused by the increasing number of electric vehicles.

According to the NRA, homework is underway to include electric vehicle parts, automated system for operating vehicles, programming boards and price details, facilitate the claim process and implement appropriate insurance rates. The AUTHORITY has also assured to incorporate the suggestions of the vehicle distributors.

According to a statement issued by NADA, nada has agreed to study the policies and practices used in South Asian countries at a minimum level and provide necessary information to the AUTHORITY in this regard as there is a need to study the international practices to formulate policies regarding electric vehicles.
