Kathmandu. Kathmandu. Nabil Bank has launched a new and effective type of account in the banking sector, ‘Nabil Digo Bachat Khata’, with the aim of promoting sustainable development and carbon emission reduction and control.
In the context of Nepal’s goal of zero carbon emissions by 2045, the bank has launched this savings account in line with the vision of sustainable development and sustainable banking. Under this scheme, the bank will directly spend the amount of 0.5 percent of the total deposit collected, excluding the interest rate received by the service recipient, on carbon emission reduction and control.
According to the bank, the amount will be spent on programs such as forest restoration and tree plantation, renewable energy promotion, waste management initiatives, clean energy and clean water related projects, and sustainable development goals to reduce and control carbon emissions. Under this scheme, a one-time token tree plantation will be done in the name of customers who deposit an average of Rs. 50,000 in the Nabil Sustainable Savings Account on a semi-annual basis.
The bank believes that this will directly contribute to carbon emission reduction and control and achieving sustainable development goals. A minimum balance of Rs. 10,000 is required to open this account. This special savings account is targeted at individuals of all age groups, Non-Resident Nepalis (NRNs) and non-profit organizations who want to directly contribute to environmental conservation in addition to financial benefits.
In addition, customers who maintain a minimum balance will be able to use Nabil Bank’s digital banking platforms NBank and NBank Wave for free for life under the digital banking promotion. The bank has stated that this will promote a paperless banking culture.
In addition, customers participating in this scheme will be provided with a free Nabil debit card and credit card for the first year, a 25 percent discount on annual locker fees, and insurance facilities for eligible customers.
