Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Local Government to provide insurance worth Rs 10 million

Kathmandu. Lalitpur Metropolitan City has provided free health insurance to single women and sanitation workers under the scheme to ensure access to insurance to poor and needy families.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has signed an agreement to pay Rs 10 million to the Health Insurance Board for the health insurance program.

Metropolitan City Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan and Executive Director of the Insurance Board Raghuraj Kafle signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two sides on Wednesday.

As per the agreement, the metropolis will bear 100 per cent of the insurance premium for the health insurance of the city police, sanitation workers, motorists and single women and toll health catalysts living in the metropolis.

The metropolis had started the health insurance program for the residents two years ago with the technical support of Patan Hospital.

On the occasion, Patan Hospital Director Rabi Shakya shared that the modern dead body management home has been managed with the help of Lalitpur Metropolitan City.

Meanwhile, Shahidnagar Municipality of Dhanusha has provided health insurance to 1,500 people belonging to 300 poor families. Each family has been insured at the rate of Rs 3,500. The health insurance has been provided at a cost of rs 1.05 million to benefit a total of 300 households.
