Kumari Bank Launches ‘Green Hire Purchase Loan’ Scheme

Kumari Bank, with an aim to aiming to meet the national and international commitments towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through its products, processes and partnerships, has launched a scheme called ‘Green Hire Purchase Loan’. The bank, which is committed to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through a consistent practice of Sustainable, Inclusive and Responsible Banking, has been launched in partnership with the Sustainable Electric Transport Nepal Project managed and promoted by institutions like GIZ, Global Green Growth Institute etc.

Under this scheme, people associated with public transport services will be able to avail loan at attractive interest rate while taking loan from banks to purchase electric buses and micro buses and will also get subsidy determined by the project on the down payment.

Similarly, people currently operating fuel-based public vehicles can also get additional subsidies if they want to take loans to convert their vehicles to electric buses and microbuses. For this, the borrowers have to contact the branches of Kumari Bank with necessary documents for purchasing electric buses and micro buses from vehicle suppliers of the project.

According to Arpan Poudel, head of the bank’s Sustainable Banking Development Department, the grants included in the scheme will help borrowers manage their initial capital and reduce pollution with the use of electric vehicles in public transportation.

Kumari Bank has been rendering state-of-the-art banking services for the past 24 years through a wide domestic network of 302 branches, 50 extension counters, 48 branchless banking units and 317 ATMs.
