Kathmandu: Dr. Raghuraj Kafle appointed as the Executive Director of the Health Insurance Board(HIB). The Council of Ministers’ meeting held on Monday decided to appoint Kafle, a permanent resident of Byas Municipality-5, Tanahun, as the Executive Director of the board.
The recommendation committee formed for the appointment of Executive Director had recommended the names of Dr. Krishna Adhikari and Kamal Panthi along with Kafle. Kafle has a PhD in economics.
He has been involved in the work of the Ministry of Health. He also played the role of a member of the Health Insurance Reform Task Force formed by the ministry. Apart from this, Kafle has also gained experience as the Executive Chief of the Foreign Employment Board.
After the four-year term of Dr. Damodar Basaula, who was the Executive Director of the Board, ended on 25 Kartik, the Ministry had given the responsibility of Acting Executive Director to Dr. Saroj Sharma.
HIB runs the state’ social security program, Health Insurance Program(HIP), which is a loss making business for the state. Recently, health minister Pradip Paudel expressed his helplessness for the shortage of funds for the HIP. He blamed health institutions for embezzlement of the insurance fund through fake reimbursement claims under the Program.
