Kathmandu. So far, non-life insurance companies have claimed more than Rs 50 million in damage caused by the riots during the royalists’ protest in Kathmandu on March 15.
The Nepal Insurance Authority (NEA) has made public the data received from the insurers till April 15, 2018, adding that 50 claims have been filed in 12 insurance companies for the damage caused due to the riots. The companies have to pay Rs 549,421 for these claims.
According to the data, Shikhar Insurance has paid all the claims incurred due to the riots. The company has paid Rs 498,213 in five claims.
The national insurance company has claimed the highest amount of damage caused by the riots. The company has to pay Rs 12.7 million for two claims.
Siddhartha Premier Insurance has claimed the second highest amount. According to nea, the company has to pay Rs 11.79 million for nine claims.
Sagarmatha Lumbini Insurance has made Rs 7.54 million for seven claims, Neco Insurance rs 5.2 million for four claims, Oriental Insurance rs 4.75 million for one claim, Himalayan Everest Insurance Rs 2.2 million for two claims, National Insurance Rs 2.075 million for 11 claims, IGI Prudential Insurance Rs 1.76 million for six claims. Nepal Insurance has to pay Rs 871,000 for a claim, Sanima GIC Insurance Rs 600,000 for a claim and Prabhu Insurance Rs 50,000 for a claim.
Apart from Shikhar, 11 other companies have not paid a single claim amount. The NRA had on March 27 directed to settle the payment of insurance claims as soon as possible.
