Kathmandu. Strange cases of insurance fraud are coming to light in neighboring India. Recently, one such strange incident has been exposed.
In a shocking incident, a drama has come to light in Bhagalpur, Bihar, India. A birth certificate is made in the name of a child who is not born there. After this, a medical certificate is prepared from the hospital stating that the child is sick. An insurance claim of Rs 1.38 crore (Rs 2.20 crore) is made for the death of a sick child. However, when the insurance company investigates this incident, surprising results come out.
After the investigation found that the insurance claim was fake, the company filed a complaint against the couple Shiva Shankar Sharma and Manju Sharma, who run Shiva Dynastic Center, at the local Barari police post. After this, the police start investigating. The Sharmas, who claim to be the parents of the child, are found to have insured separately in the name of the unborn child.
During the preliminary investigation of the case, the police found that in September 2024, the Sharma couple had purchased separate insurance policies in the name of their unborn daughter Sakshi Kumari. At that time, it was said that the daughter was less than 2 years old. On January 10, 2025, the couple prepares a death certificate and a doctor’s certificate stating that their daughter has fallen ill and submits a death claim to the insurance company in March.
The insurance company starts an investigation when it becomes suspicious. The company then discovers that the child who is claimed to have died is still alive. After this, the company files a complaint with the police for submitting fake documents.
The Sharma couple had submitted a medical certificate to the insurance company stating that the child had cough and difficulty in breathing. The child was referred to Patna for further treatment but died during treatment.
The company claimed to have provided the child’s death certificate and medical records from a multi-speciality hospital. According to the company, the accused couple Sharma was involved in running the hospital. The company then questioned the child’s death and refused to pay the claim.
The Sharma couple provided prescriptions from a male and female doctor in the city as well as a pediatrician to the insurance company.
When the insurance company reached the couple’s village to investigate, it was found that the couple had two sons but no daughters. The Barari police station has registered a case against the couple and is investigating the case. The Sharma couple has been kept under police surveillance.
