Kathmandu. Employees of Nepal Insurance Authority (NEA) have been protesting for the past one week. They have continued the first phase of agitation since December 17, saying their seven-point demands have not been addressed.

The protest was jointly organized by Nepal Insurance Authority, Employees Union and Employees Union after the 21-day ultimatum given on January 14 and a seven-day ultimatum on December 7 to address their demands failed to resolve the issue. They have been hanging black banners in the office and wearing black bands on their hands for 1 hour.

The employees had submitted a written demand on November 15 and November 26 regarding career development, capacity development, creation of new opportunities, promotion, transfer, training and facilities among others. The union had issued a seven-day ultimatum warning to start a sequential strike from December 11 as the union management did not take any initiative for 21 days.

Employees of the NRA said that they are hopeful that their demands will be fulfilled as Chairman of the NRA, Janak Raj Sharma, has been taking initiatives with the Ministry of Finance regarding the demands of the employees. “He has been taking initiatives in our favour in a positive way,” said an employee associated with the employees’ union, adding, “We are hopeful that the Ministry of Finance will resolve the problem soon.” ’
