Kathmandu. More than Rs 17 billion worth of gold has been imported into the country from different countries in a year.
The Department of Customs made public the last fiscal year 2081. According to the data of 82, gold worth Rs 17.12 billion has been imported. Accordingly, 1.4 million kilograms of gold has been imported. The government has collected Rs 1.85 billion from customs duty on gold imports.
Nepal has imported the highest amount of gold from the UAE. Nepal has imported about 13 kg of gold from the UAE. Similarly, Nepal has imported 1 kg of gold from Turkey.
Nepal has imported the remaining gold from China, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Malaysia, Malta, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Thailand.
