Kathmandu. The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a bill that would end the nationwide shutdown. The bill was passed by a vote of 222-209.
The House of Representatives is the lower house of the US Congress and the Senate is the upper house. During the vote, 6 Democrats ultimately supported the Republican bill. The bill will now go to President Donald Trump for his signature.
Trump said he planned to sign the bill on Thursday. With the president’s approval, the longest government shutdown in U.S. history will officially end.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, said after the bill was passed, “We feel a great sense of relief today. The Democratic shutdown is finally over. ’
Johnson blamed opposition Democratic lawmakers for the shutdown. Many government functions have been suspended since the shutdown.
Similarly, a large number of federal government employees are either on vacation or working without pay. In fact, the Senate has failed to pass a bill related to government spending. The Senate rejected the bill 14 times. This led to a shutdown in the United States.
