Kathmandu. A new case of big data leak has come to light. About 16 billion passwords have been leaked. Which has made it the biggest data leak in history.
According to cybernews and Forbes reports, the personal data of billions of users is now at risk due to this leak. Because of this, people may have to face problems like phishing scam, data theft and account hacking.
According to security researchers, this is not old data from people roaming on the Internet for years. Most of the data is new. Which has been collected through infostilers malware.
This malware program steals people’s data secretly. This stolen data contains a username and password. The malware steals from the user’s phone and sends it to the hacker. Hackers can use this data directly or sell it to dark web forums.
According to reports, the leaked data includes user login information for various services. This includes details from users’ e-mails to social networking platforms such as Facebook, Google and Telegram. This also includes information about the account details of developers on GitHub and some government portals.
Much of the information is organized in one format. Which includes website links, followed by usernames and passwords. This makes it easier for cyber attackers to use them.
Experts are calling this data leak a ‘blueprint for global cybercrime’.
It includes 30 large data sets. There are millions to billions of login credentials in each data set. The total number of login credentials stolen is more than 16 billion.
According to cyber security experts, users should respond immediately to this. So that they can protect themselves. The user should change his password immediately. Apart from this, you should turn on two-factor authentication for your accounts and use password management.
