Health insurance is now mandatory to get treatment facilities for severe diseases, to be associated by September

Kathmandu. The government has made it mandatory for the service seekers to join the health insurance to get treatment facilities for severe diseases.

Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Poudel on Thursday made it mandatory to be associated with health insurance to get treatment facilities for eight serious diseases being provided to poor citizens. The Ministry has set a deadline for the service seekers to join the health insurance by mid-October.

In the past, the Government had approved the ‘Poor Citizen Drug Treatment Program Operation Guidelines, 2080 (First Amendment 2082) so that the payment of treatment facilities provided to the poor citizens would be managed through the Health Insurance Board. The Ministry has implemented the provision of being associated with health insurance to get treatment facilities for eight serious diseases in the same guideline.

The Ministry has also sent a letter to the Insurance Board and Nursing and Social Security Division on Thursday, directing them to make arrangements for health insurance within the given time to the service seekers who are currently receiving the service.

According to the Ministry, this arrangement aims to make the facility effective through a one-door system by bringing poor citizens under the ambit of health insurance.
