Kathmandu. The US-based Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) has stated in its report that a large part of the world is currently embroiled in war. CSIS has claimed that Russia has launched a shadow war against the US and Europe.
The report states that Russia is conducting cyber attacks, sabotage and espionage against the US and Europe. The aim is to weaken the support that Ukraine receives from Western countries. After this claim by CSIS, experts have questioned whether a large part of the world can be considered embroiled in World War III. On one hand, there is a direct war, and on the other hand, there is a shadow war, which CSIS has mentioned.
According to the report, there has been an increase in incidents such as explosions at military bases, hacking of government e-mails and cutting of undersea cables in Europe in recent times. Especially since 2022 (after the start of the Ukraine war), such attacks have tripled in Europe. Experts have warned that this move by Russia is intended to threaten Ukraine’s allies. In such a situation, the situation could get worse if Russia becomes stronger in Ukraine.
According to CSIS, Russia’s shadow war is a warning bell for NATO allies and global security. Russia is targeting critical infrastructure such as energy grids and transportation networks. This could put systems connected to North America at risk.
CSIS has reported that groups such as Cozy Bear have carried out cyber attacks on US agencies. This could also affect Canadian institutions. Canada has been providing military assistance to Ukraine. In such a situation, Canada may also have to face cyber attacks. These attacks could target Canadian elections or infrastructure.
Russia could use hybrid warfare methods. This includes interference in countries like Canada. The US has cut military aid to Ukraine. This is increasing pressure on the trans-Atlantic alliance and making it harder to respond to Russian aggression.
The report also expresses concern about US President Donald Trump’s policies. The report states that Trump’s desire for good relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin will reduce support for Ukraine. – Agency
