Kathmandu. The US Department of Education has planned to drastically reduce the number of its employees. Under this plan, the department is going to lay off about half of its employees.
It is estimated that about 2,100 employees will be affected by this cut. They will be furloughed from March 21.
In the US, the Trump administration is working on a plan to reduce the number of central employees. Its aim is to reduce government spending.
The US Department of Education currently employs more than 4,000 people and has an annual budget of about $238 billion.
This department, created in the US in 1979, allocates funds to public schools, provides student loans for education and operates programs for poor students. Although states and districts in the US are responsible for operating schools and setting curricula, schools here receive only 13 percent of their funding from the federal Department of Education. –Agency
