Kathmandu. Global IME Bank Limited has concluded its “Global IME AI/ML Hackathon” program on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Deputy Governor Bam Bahadur Mishra was the chief guest at the event which was attended by chief executive officer, deputy chief executive officer and senior managers of the bank and representatives of various organizations.
The bank has organized this competition targeting students, startups, developers, data scientists and researchers interested in technology to develop potential innovative technology-based banking services. A total of 21 teams were selected for online paper presentations. The participating teams from Kathmandu, Mahendranagar, Pokhara, Birgunj, Kavre and Dharan participated.
Among the participating teams, Team Calculus won rs 100,000 as the first prize of the tournament. Similarly, WDK, Larke Pass, Team Janakpur and Fredex teams have been awarded the second, third, fourth and fifth prizes respectively. Second runner-up WDK received Rs 75,000, third runner-up Larke Pass Rs 50,000, fourth and fifth runner-up Team Janakpur rs 15,000 and Team Fredex Rs 15,000 each. In addition, the bank has awarded Digivits with a cash prize of Rs 15,000 under the Best Presentation category.
Nepal Rastra Bank Deputy Governor Bam Bahadur Mishra handed over the prize money to the winning teams. Deputy Governor Bam Bahadur Mishra thanked global IME Bank for conducting the hackathon on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) for the first time in Nepal. Deputy Governor Mishra said that nepal rastra bank believes that such competitions will provide opportunities to the youth and students and will expand the reach of services by using the latest technology in the bank’s services and facilities more effectively.
On the occasion, Chief Executive Officer of the Bank Surendra Raj Regmi said that the bank believes that this hackathon will help in solving the potential services and challenges of digital banking and help in the development of innovative services. He also informed that the bank will provide an opportunity to the best teams of this tournament to collaborate.
The bank is committed to promoting technology-friendly financial services and believes that this hackathon will play an important role in encouraging innovative ideas to make digital banking services more effective. The participants of the competition presented their views focusing on various issues set by the bank.
Various teams had applied through the bank’s website to participate in the tournament. The event was held in two phases. Under which coding was done in the first phase and onsite hackathon in the second phase.
Global IME Bank has been recognized as the best bank in Nepal under global finance’s Best Bank Award 2024 and Euro Money Award for Excellence 2024. Similarly, Global IME Bank has been honored in different categories by various national and international organizations.
