Kathmandu. Navratri has started from today. On the first day of Navratri, Ghatasthapana is performed in every household. Bada Dashain is believed to start from Ashwin Shukla Pratipada. According to the Nepal Calendar Determination Development Committee, it is best to perform Ghatasthapana at the auspicious time of 9:13 am today.
According to the committee, it is in accordance with the scriptures to perform Ghatasthapana before performing Ghatasthapana, as Chitra Nakshatra and Vaidhriti Yoga fall on this day. Bada Dashain is celebrated with great fanfare for 15 days till Ashwin Shukla Purnima. On the first day of Bada Dashain, Ghatasthapana is performed in the puja rooms of the house and in the Dashain house with the installation of lamps, kalash and Ganesh rituals.
The puja begins with the invocation of Goddess Durga, the presiding deity of Shakti, according to the Vedic rituals. This morning, after completing the daily rituals, sand or soil is brought from the nearby river or clean place, placed in a puja room smeared with cow dung or in the Dashain house, and barley is planted on it. This act is also known as keeping the jamra. Since barley sprouts are the favorite thing of Goddess Durga, today barley is planted and offered to Goddess Durga and on the day of Bijaya Dashami, a yellow jamara, a symbol of prosperity, is worn along with Tika Prasad.
