Kathmandu. The number of people killed in arson and vandalism has been higher than in police firing during the protests against corruption and misrule of the Genji generation on September 23 and 24.
The two-day Zenji agitation has caused massive human and physical damage. The death toll is increasing and about one hundred and fifty injured are still being treated in different hospitals.
According to Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal, 72 people have so far lost their lives in the agitation. The interim government led by former Chief Justice Sushila Karki has declared the deceased as martyr and announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the victim’s family.
Among those killed during the protests were Jenji protesters, security personnel and other civilians. The number of people killed in arson and other attacks is increasing more than due to police firing.
According to the information received so far, about 2 dozen people of the movement have died in police shooting. Similarly, the number of people killed in arson has also increased. The death toll from other attacks is similar.
At least 6 people were killed in a fire that broke out at Bhatbhateni Supermarket in Bouddha, Kathmandu. Similarly, 2 people were killed in a fire that took place in Bhatbhateni of Dharan. 2 police personnel killed in fire at Maharajgunj Police Circle
On the other hand, 2 people were killed in a fire that broke out in the house of automobile entrepreneur Dhruba Thapa in Pokhara. A fire broke out at the house of Ganga, the younger daughter of former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, on Monday.
Similarly, 10 prisoners who tried to escape from different prisons were killed. The fire at the Parliament Building in New Baneshwor, Kathmandu, has also caused human casualties. However, the extent of the casualties is yet to be ascertained.
