Kathmandu. One hundred houses constructed for the poorest families of Gadhi, Barju rural municipality, Duhabi and Inaruwa municipalities of Sunsari district have been handed over to the people. A total of 100 houses were handed over to poor and impoverished people amidst a special ceremony held at Kolarhawa Community Village in Gadhi Rural Municipality-2 on Tuesday.

The house, constructed with the financial assistance of the Buddhist Chuji Charity Foundation, an international donor organization by the Rural Women Curiosity Development Forum (FORWARD), has been equipped with 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, toilet and a drinking water call. The cost of the houses constructed under the Safe Housing Construction Project for poor and disadvantaged communities is Rs 650,000.

Speaking at the building handover ceremony, former minister Bhagwati Chaudhary said that some part of her long-standing plan to provide housing for the poor, impoverished, Dalit, Musahar and Rishidev people in her constituency has been completed.

“My intention was to define my constituency as a model area of development, so that we could put some balm on the pain and hardship of the poor, impoverished, helpless, Dalit, Musahar and Mochi Ram community who did not have any land or safe house to live in,” he said. Chaudhary, who is also the founder of Forward, said.

Stating that her constituency is the most backward area in the district in terms of development, she has been doing her best to improve the living standard of the people there and will continue to do so in the days to come. “A country becomes prosperous and strong only when its people are equipped with the basic elements of development. The country becomes self-reliant and strong when people have easy access to food, shelter and cotton, education, health, roads, bridges, drinking water, irrigation, information communication and employment. Stating that efforts from a single side would not be meaningful to make the country self-reliant and people’s prosperity, former Minister Chaudhary said that collective effort of all was inevitable for nation and society building.

Speaking at the program, Vice President of Buddhist Chuji Charity Foundation Lin Pei Yu said that the Foundation has been working with the Foundation for the past 13 years to improve the living standard of Nepal and Nepalis. Vice-President Dian PU said that they are ready to serve the poor and disadvantaged people of the area in the coming days as well.

Social Welfare Council Vice-Chairman Nandalal Majhi and Gadhi Rural Municipality Chief Ash Narayan Chaudhary said the poor and impoverished people living on the river banks and government land in the area have received a huge relief. On the occasion, clothes and food items were distributed to the families of the indigent people.

Executive Director of Forward Nepal, Drabya Raj Chaudhary, informed that safe houses have been constructed for poor and disadvantaged communities in Duhabi Municipality, Gadhi Rural Municipality, Barju Rural Municipality and Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City. According to him, 14 houses in Duhabi-9, 40 houses in Gadhi-2, 30 houses in Barju 1, 3 and 5 and 16 houses in Inaruwa-7 were constructed under the project that was laid last year. Forward Nepal aims to rebuild such safe houses in the near future and distribute them to the poor and impoverished citizens.
