Kathmandu. Officials and employees of Forest Islamic Life Insurance Company have demanded an impartial investigation into the case of former chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Nazrul Islam, who has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on the charge of embezzling the company. They have also demanded the confiscation of the domestic and foreign assets of the embezzlers and return them to the company and immediate arrest of their associates.
They made these demands during a demonstration organized in front of the ACC office in Segun Bagicha of the capital. The protest was led by the company’s CEO (acting) Kamrul Hasan.
Deputy Managing Director (DMD) Abdur Rahim Bhuyan, Chairman Shahadat Hussain Roman, In-charge of Land Estate Department Asgar Ali, Public Relations Department In-charge Prashant Subhash Chandra and other officials, employees, field workers and affected customers were present on the occasion. Last year, the ACC had arrested Nazrul Islam, former chairman of Forest Islamic Life, on the charge of embezzling money through the purchase of land. He was produced before the court of the Metropolitan Senior Special Judge on the same day and remanded in custody for 5 days.
On July 31, the ACC had filed a case against 24 persons, including Nazrul Islam, for allegedly embezzling Tk 450 million from the company. However, apart from Farist chairman Nazrul Islam and former director MA Khaliq, none of the other accused have been arrested in the case. The accused and some of their family members are still on the company’s board.
On July 31, the former chairman of First Islamic Life was accused of embezzling 450 million taka (taka). The ACC had filed a case against 24 people, including Nazrul Islam.
According to the statement of the case, the accused had misappropriated Tk 450 million by showing that they had purchased land worth Tk 207.36 million in 36 artillery houses in the name of Forest Islamic Life Insurance Company. Nazrul Islam and his wife Taslima Islam, the former director of Forest Life, embezzled Rs 95 million. The incident took place in 2015 in connection with a land purchase and embezzlement.
One of the accused in the case, director Nazneen Hussain, is on the board of directors. The other accused in the case are the founding directors of Medinova Medical Services. Mokades Hussein, the elder brother of Mohamed Monowar Hussein, is the vice-president of Farist Islamic Life. Mozamel Hussein, another brother of Dr Moqades Hussein, is also an accused in another case filed by the ACC. Mubarak Hussein’s brother and another accused in the case, Mohammad Shahidul Islam, the founding chairman of the Amanat Shah Group, is an independent director of the board of directors of Forrest Islamic Life.
