Kathmandu. The Ministry of Finance is preparing to seek clarification from Santosh Narayan Shrestha, chairman of the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON).
Employees have been agitating for the past one and a half months over the decision of the Ministry of Finance to cut off their perks. “The Ministry of Finance is adamant that it will not withdraw its decision. Instead, the Ministry of Finance has come to the conclusion that Chairman Shrestha has not been able to suppress the employees’ agitation by implementing the decision of Chairman Shrestha. ’
The employees have been protesting since the Ministry of Finance wrote a letter to the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) on September 2. The employees of the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) have demanded that the revenue secretary-level decision to scrap the working procedure issued by the Board of Directors of the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) should be revoked immediately. All work has come to a standstill due to the employees’ strike. The employees have also padlocked the office demanding the resignation of Chairman Shrestha.
According to a senior official of the Securities Board of Nepal, Chairman Shrestha has failed to protect the procedures brought by the board of directors. “He could not convince the directors of the Securities Board to save the procedure. He has not been able to talk to the finance minister yet,” the official said, “Therefore, he has decided to resign to give a way out as the directors do not listen to him and the finance minister also does not want to meet.” Perhaps he may resign after today’s meeting. ’
The Finance Ministry is holding a discussion with the joint secretaries at 5 pm today. “Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal is not scheduled to participate in the discussions. There will be a discussion between the office-bearers and directors of the Securities Board of Nepal,” the official said.
The meeting will be attended by Chairman Shrestha and Executive Directors.
