. KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu chapter of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has strongly condemned the death threat to its member journalist Parbat Raj Ghimire. Subash Shah, the brother-in-law of Mayor Shah, threatened to kill journalist Ghimire over the phone. After the incident became public, the branch has taken it as a direct attack on press freedom.

Ramesh Kumar Bohora, secretary of the section, said in a statement on Wednesday, “This is not a personal grudge but a deliberate attack on the right to free press and expression which challenges democratic values and the basic spirit of press freedom.”TAG_OPEN_div_17 ”

The press release states that the Press Council Nepal has a legal provision to file a complaint against the news and it is a direct violation of the Press Code of Conduct and the prevailing laws.TAG_OPEN_div_15

TAG_OPEN_div_13 The chapter has strongly urged the government to immediately investigate the incident, take stern action against the culprits and adopt zero tolerance towards threats and attacks on journalists.
