Incidents of insurance fraud have increased in the state of Bihar. There have been many cases of people plotting fake vehicle accidents to get insurance money.
In Bihar, after such fake vehicle accidents, cases are filed in tribunals and efforts are made to get the insurance amount. So far, 350 such cases have been detected across the state. In which a fake case is filed to get insurance money.
Both parties file cases under non-hit-and-run in connivance with each other and in connivance with lawyers. When the truth of such a case is revealed during the investigation, it is dismissed.
Not having a hit-and-run means that the driver acts responsibly rather than running away. I stopped at the spot and helped or informed the concerned authorities.
The Bihar Motor Accident Claims Tribunal has found many such fake cases during investigation in divisions. The Department of Transport has a provision to get two types of insurance money under road accidents. The hit-and-run case is registered with the District Transport Office and the insurance amount is received from there. However, a case without hit-and-run is registered with the divisional tribunal of the concerned district.
Under the tribune, views of both sides are heard in the tribunal office. If the victim is not ready, then the insurance company will have to pay the insurance amount demanded by the victim. For this, the tribunal gives 30 days time to the insurance company.
While investigating many such cases in the tribunal, it was said that the decision would be taken only after the physical examination when the authorities were suspicious. The lawyers of the respective cases were making various excuses to avoid physical investigation. Information about the incident was also taken from the local people.
Since then, in many cases, there was no evidence of an accident at the crash site. Rohtas, Saharsa, Purnea, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Gopalganj, Vaishali and Muzaffarpur districts have the highest number of such cases.
The Bihar Motor Vehicle Accident Claims Tribunal was set up by the Transport Department in 2023 so that road accident victims could get the insurance amount on time. At present, there are 10 tribunals in nine divisions. There are two tribunals in Patna division. A lawyer is not required to file a case in the tribunal. The general public can register cases online or offline on their own.
