Kathmandu. US President Donald Trump has agreed to extend the deadline for a tariff deal with the European Union (EU). He has given information about this on his Truth Social account.
Trump said he had agreed to extend the deadline for negotiations with the EU to July 9. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said she had spoken to Trump by phone on Sunday.
Ursula von der Leyen wrote in X, “Had a good conversation with President Trump. The EU and the US have the most important and close trade relationship in the world. Europe is ready to move the talks forward quickly and decisively. We need until July 9 to reach a good deal. ’
“Today I received a call from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, asking me to extend the June 1 deadline for a 50 per cent tariff on trade and the EU,” Trump told Truth Social. I have agreed to extend the deadline till July 9. ’
Last month, Trump announced a 20 per cent tariff on most goods coming from the EU. The tariff rate was then reduced to 10 per cent by July 8, giving time for talks.
However, on Friday, Trump expressed disappointment over the pace of negotiations with the EU and threatened to impose a 50 percent tariff. Since then, there have been reports that the deadline for talks has been extended.
