Kathmandu. Commercial banks have increased their investment in the construction sector. This is according to the data released by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) for the first quarter of the current fiscal year.
According to the statistics, 20 commercial banks have invested Rs 209.98 billion in the construction sector in the first three months of the current fiscal year. Previous fiscal year 2081. Compared to the previous year, the credit investment of banks in the construction sector increased by 13.99 percent.
Compared to the previous year, the credit investment of 15 banks in the construction sector increased while five decreased. As of mid-September of the current fiscal year, Nabil Bank has invested the most in the construction sector, followed by Citizens Bank and Everest Bank in terms of growth rate.
As of mid-September of the current fiscal year, Nabil Bank has disbursed loans worth Rs 25.70 billion to the construction sector. The bank had disbursed Rs 23.92 billion in the same period last year. Compared to the previous year, the credit flow increased by 7.43 percent.
Laxmi Sunrise Bank is the second largest lender in the construction sector. As of mid-September, the bank has extended loans of Rs 21.72 billion. The bank had disbursed loan of Rs 18.46 billion in the same period of the previous year. The bank’s loan investment increased by Rs 20.64 billion in the review period compared to the previous year.
NIC Asia Bank is the third bank. In the review period, the bank disbursed loan of Rs 16.93 billion to Rs 21.24 billion in the review period.
Similarly, Citizens Bank and Kumari Bank disbursed loans worth Rs 15.74 billion in the construction sector during the review period. Last year, Citizens invested Rs 12.88 billion while Kumari invested Rs 17.59 billion. In the review period, Citizens Bank’s credit flow increased by 37.45 percent while Kumari’s contracted by 10.50 percent.
In the review period, Everest Bank’s loan investment in the construction sector increased by 37.35 percent compared to the previous year, while Nepal SBI Bank was the least disbursed loan. In the review period, Nepal SBI Bank’s loan investment decreased by 47.43 percent compared to the previous year.
