Kathmandu. Current fiscal year 2081. Commercial banks have earned a profit of about Rs 54 billion in the 11 months (July-June).
According to the data released by the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) for the 11 months of the current fiscal year, 20 commercial banks have earned a profit of Rs 43.97 billion. In the same period last year, commercial banks had earned a profit of Rs 56.79 billion. Compared to the previous year, the profit of the banks decreased by 4.97 percent in the review period.
During the review period, the profit of 9 banks has increased while the profit of 11 banks has decreased. Nabil Bank is at the top of the list with the highest profit till the review period. Nepal Bank is ahead in terms of profit growth.
Nabil has earned a profit of Rs 6.40 billion till May this year. In the same period last year, the bank had earned a profit of Rs 6.33 billion. The bank’s profit increased by 1.10 percent in the review period compared to the previous year.
Global IME Bank is the second most profitable bank. In the same period last year, the bank had earned a profit of Rs 5.09 billion, while it earned a profit of Rs 6.03 billion in the review period. The bank’s profit increased by 18.59 percent in the review period compared to the previous year.
Nepal Investment Mega Bank is the third most profitable bank. The bank has earned a profit of Rs 5.68 billion in the review period. The bank had posted a net profit of Rs 4.38 billion in the same period last year. The bank’s profit increased by 29.83 percent in the review period compared to the previous year.
Similarly, Everest Bank has earned a profit of Rs 4.24 billion, Nepal Bank Rs 3.07 billion, NMB Bank Rs 3.03 billion and Prime Bank Rs 2.90 billion in the current fiscal year. Everest Bank’s profit increased by 28 percent, Nepal Bank’s 185.27 percent and NMB Bank’s 9.18 percent compared to the same period last year.
Standard Chartered Bank has earned a profit of Rs 2.72 billion, Laxmi Sunrise Bank Rs 2.57 billion, Prabhu Bank Rs 2.21 billion and Siddhartha Bank Rs 2.21 billion in the current fiscal year. Standard Chartered and Prabhu’s profit has decreased compared to the previous year, while Laxmi Sunrise and Siddhartha’s profits have increased.
Similarly, Rastriya Banijya Bank has earned a profit of Rs 2.20 billion, Sanima Bank Rs 2.15 billion and Krishi Bikas Bank Rs 1.81 billion in the current fiscal year. Sanima Bank’s profit has increased compared to the previous year, while Rastriya Banijya Bank and Krishi Bikas Bank have decreased.
During the review period, Nepal SBI Bank earned a profit of Rs 1.54 billion, Machhapuchhre Bank Rs 1.50 billion, Citizens Bank Rs 1.41 billion, Himalayan Bank Rs 900 million, NIC Asia Bank Rs 825.7 million and Kumari Bank Rs 371 million. Machhapuchchhre Bank, Nepal SBI Bank, Citizens Bank, Himalayan Bank, NIC Asia Bank and Kumari Bank declined compared to the previous year.
