Kathmandu. China has banned government officials from eating outside and traveling in expensive cars. In addition, staying in expensive hotels has also been banned.
This order has been issued in view of Xi Jinping’s austerity campaign. The aim is to reduce the expenditure of government officials.
Apart from this, some Chinese civil servants have also died due to excessive consumption of alcohol at the banquet. In such a situation, the order states that all government officials in Beijing will not be allowed to eat outside in groups of more than three people. They should use government money as little as possible for their comfort.
In early May, austerity laws were enacted for communist party members and public sector officials and employees. It prohibits living in expensive hotels, luxury car fittings and the use of decorative plants in office meetings.
Analysts say the new order is a sign of President Xi Jinping’s longstanding commitment to anti-corruption and party discipline. They also said that the old orders were not as effective as Jinping expected. In such a situation, a new order had to be issued.
“The alcohol culture among civil servants is really serious, but they haven’t found a good solution yet, so they can only apply the same policy to everyone,” said Alfred Wu, an associate professor at The National University of Singapore. ’
Three chinese government officials have been killed since April. All deaths are related to excessive alcohol consumption at banquets. Dozens of officials have been sentenced in connection with the deaths in Hunan, Anhui and Henan provinces. These officials hid information about the banquets and tried to compensate the families of the deceased privately. However, this week’s new food guidelines, preached by some areas, tell a darker story. “It has asked activists to be vigilant at social gatherings, not to feed bosses or subordinates, and to “refrain from forming small groups,” the Communist Party body in Anhui province said in a social media post. – Agency
