Kathmandu. On the occasion of Global Recycling Day, BYD Auto Industry has implemented a comprehensive battery recycling and reuse program. This reaffirms BYD’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

As the world moves towards electric mobility, responsible battery management is essential to achieving a truly sustainable EV ecosystem. BYD is taking the lead in this important task.

As part of this initiative, BYD has signed agreements with two leading recycling service providers: IT Asset Partners Inc., based in California, USA, and Anhui Lecheng Lithium-ion Technology Company, based in Wuhu, China. The partnership, formally announced on May 28, 2024, will ensure the safe, responsible and efficient recycling of lithium-ion battery packs and batteries used in BYD EVs.

BYD’s Circular Economy Approach to Battery Recycling

Both service providers are R2 Certified, meaning Responsible Recycler Certified. Which meet the global standard of sustainable recycling.

The recycling process includes capacity testing, safe dismantling, material recovery and eco-friendly processing. Capacity testing assesses the potential for reuse of used batteries. Safe dismantling is then the process of carefully destroying unused batteries. Then, the extraction of important raw materials such as lithium, nickel and cobalt falls under material recovery, and finally, the recycled materials are made available to licensed companies.

Through the entire process from battery production to recycling, BYD has taken significant steps to reduce electronic pollution, protect natural resources and reduce its carbon footprint.

##Leading a Green Future

##

Speaking on this initiative, Nepal’s Sahil Shrestha, CEO of Cymax Inc., the official distributor of BYD, said, “As we celebrate Global Recycling Day, we recognize that sustainability is not just about producing electric vehicles, but also about building a truly circular economy. Our commitment to responsible battery recycling ensures that the entire EV technology, from production to disposal, is environmentally friendly.”

##Impact on Nepal

##

##

At a time when Nepal is becoming known as one of the most EV-using countries in the world, responsible battery disposal and recycling needs to be a top priority. BYD’s initiative aligns with Nepal’s sustainability goals as the country transitions towards electric mobility and minimizes its environmental impact.

By promoting sustainable transportation, renewable energy integration, and responsible battery management, BYD is actively working towards a greener future through its authorized distributor in Nepal, Cymax Inc.

On the occasion of Global Recycling Day, BYD has taken another important step, ensuring that sustainability is not just a vision: it is a commitment that drives every part of the EV ecosystem.
