Bharatpur Metropolitan City launches ‘Maternity Nutrition Bag’ programme

Kathmandu. The Bharatpur Metropolitan City (KMC) has launched the ‘Maternity Nutrition Bag’ programme for pregnant mothers. Mayor renu Dahal started the programme by distributing a bag containing nutritious food from gunjnagar health post in Bharatpur ward no. 17 on Sunday.

A total of 22 lactating mothers were provided nutrition bags. Deepak Subedi, chief of bharatpur metropolitan city’s health section, said nutrition bags would be distributed to mothers who gave birth to babies at government health facilities in Bharatpur.

Since the ‘Maternity Nutrition Bag’ procedure has come into force from January 15, nutrition bags will be distributed to the pregnant mothers from that date. The nutrition bag contains ghee, chickpeas, bananas, eggs, iodized salt, milkborne powder and massage oil.

The nutrition program is expected to increase the number of births in birthing centers and government health hospitals run by the metropolis.

Inaugurating the programme, Bharatpur Metropolitan City Mayor Renu Dahal said the programme has been launched for the nutrition of mother and child.

As per the metropolitan city’s plan to provide health services to the villages, 42 health institutions are currently in operation, she said.

She said that this program will be important to inform the poor families about how to balance nutrition.

She said that the metropolis has moved ahead to provide service with video X-ray from five birthing santers run by the metropolis. Every year, 200 mothers give birth to babies from these birthing centers.

On the occasion, Deputy Mayor chitrasen Adhikari said that such programmes have been launched so that the people of the metropolis do not have to be deprived of any health services.
