Kathmandu. E-commerce giant Amazon has laid off about 30 corporate employees.
Amazon employs a total of 3,50,000 corporate employees. About 10 percent of the employees who are being laid off are from their jobs.
These cuts are happening in departments such as people experience and technology (HR), equipment and services and operations.
The move is aimed at improving operations and offsetting overhiring during peak demand times of the pandemic. Amazon employs a total of 15.5 million people.
Managers of the affected teams received training Monday to prepare to notify the sacked staff. Employees will begin receiving e-mail notifications on Tuesday morning.
CEO Andy Jassy said that more jobs are likely to be lost due to the increasing use of AI tools. “Employees are going to be cut, especially in jobs that involve repetitive and regular work,” he said.
Earlier this year, CEO Jassi created an anonymous complaint line to note those who don’t work. It received about 1,500 responses.
