Kathmandu. Perhaps no one can forget June 12. On the same day, there was a terrible air crash in Ahmedabad, India. An Air India flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to London crashed shortly after take-off.
Of the 242 passengers and crew on board, 241 died and more than 19 died on the ground. The case is being investigated and new revelations are being made continuously.
Meanwhile, insurance companies are receiving several types of insurance claims from the families of the victims of this plane crash. According to a PTI report, after the Ahmedabad plane crash, insurance companies are constantly receiving claims from the families of those who lost their lives. This includes a wide range of claims ranging from cancelling hotel bookings to missing goods and accidental death insurance coverage to cancelling travel plans.
Apart from this, after this incident, many claims have been made under various insurance categories such as personal accident and life insurance. This includes kisan credit card holders.
“The claims we have received mainly under travel insurance and personal accident insurance include accidental death, cancellation of travel, loss of luggage and hotel cancellation. ’
Priya Deshmukh, Head of Health Products, Operations and Services, ICICI Lombard, said, “We are committed to supporting our insured and their families in these difficult times. We are working on a priority basis to provide all possible support to the families of the victims of this accident and to ensure that their claims are settled on time.” ’
Looking at the claims received by other insurance companies after the Air India plane crash, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance said that it has received personal accident coverage and insurance claims related to maritime cargo. “Three claims related to personal accident coverage and one claim under marine cargo insurance have been received,” the company said in a statement. Maritime cargo typically covers goods transported by road, rail, air, sea, or courier.
After life insurance, the claim for personal accident cover is second in this accident. However, most insurance companies did not disclose the exact number of claims they received, citing the ongoing process for formal requests from the families of the deceased.
A New India Assurance official was quoted by pti as saying, “The company has fixed seven claims related to individual accidents and five claims of group personal accident covers. Meanwhile, a claim of Rs 50,000 has been received under the Kisan Credit Card Scheme. ’
After the Air India plane crash, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) had issued instructions to resolve all insurance claims related to it as soon as possible. In a circular issued on June 14 after the accident, IRDAI said, “All insurance companies will have to issue weekly updates of claims from June 16. ’
Talking about the latest update, Manu Lavanya, COO, Axis Max Life Insurance, said, “Under the company’s instaclaim process, we were able to settle the claim of one of the accident victims within just three hours. It focuses our attention on compassionate action at the most important time. ’
