Kathmandu. The Taliban’s Interior Ministry says the death toll from the earthquake in eastern Afghanistan has risen to 610. According to the ministry, more than 1,300 people have been injured.
The earthquake occurred in Nangarhar and Kunar provinces of Afghanistan at 11.47 pm on Sunday. Its depth was 8 kilometers. After that, there were at least three earthquakes again. Its intensity ranged from 4.5 to 5.2.
According to the news agency AFP, the tremors were felt as far as Afghanistan’s capital Kabul and Pakistan’s capital Islamabad.
Most of the damage was reported in Kunar province. About 90 percent of the land is hilly.
The roads leading to the earthquake-affected areas are very narrow. Many of them have been closed due to landslides.
Taliban officials say they have limited resources and are seeking help from international organisations to provide and reach helicopters in the affected areas. – Agency
