Kathmandu. A shocking incident has come to light in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India.
A woman presented her surviving husband as a deceased in Lucknow’s Hazratganj police station area to get an insurance claim of Rs 25 lakh. She then filed a claim of Rs 25 lakh from the insurance company.
The incident came to light when the husband went to another branch to apply for a new policy. The police have filed a case on the orders of the court.
A woman submitted a fake death certificate and other documents to Aviva Life Insurance Company on Shahnajaf Road in Hazratganj. She claimed an insurance policy of Rs 25 lakh in her husband’s name.
The company paid the money to the woman and the company remained suspicious. The incident came to light when the husband went to another branch to apply for a new insurance policy. When the company checked the man’s documents, it was found that he had already been declared dead in his name.
After this came to light, the company started an investigation. The company checked all the documents provided by the woman and found them to be fake. A senior executive of the company submitted a report to the court. Following the court’s order, the Hazratganj police filed a case against the woman. Meanwhile, Hazratganj police said that they are investigating the matter and identifying the culprits involved in this fraud.
According to the company, Ravi Shankar, a resident of Janakipuram Sector F, had taken out an insurance policy of Rs 25 lakh on December 5, 2012. On April 9, his wife Kesh Kumari claimed her husband’s death and filed a claim on behalf of the company. The company transferred Rs 25 lakh to Kesh Kumari’s account through NEFT on April 21, 2023. Shortly thereafter, when the husband applied for a new policy at the Bandhan Bank branch, the company came to know that he was alive.
The company filed a complaint at the Hazratganj police station on April 17, 2025. When no action was taken, the company went to court. Now the case has been filed on the order of the court.
