Kathmandu. Members of an organised gang involved in motor insurance fraud in the UK have been jailed.

Ten members of the gang have been sent to jail for one year to five years on charges of fraud. According to the Nonprofit Insurance Fraud Bureau, the gang has taken a claim payment of $ 665,000 (more than Rs 9 crore) from British insurance companies by submitting fake evidence of a car accident.

During the investigation, this organized gang used to submit documents of cars crashing due to various reasons while claiming to the insurance company. The investigation revealed that these cars never met with an accident.

London’s City Police have been able to arrest members of the organized gang after they were found to be fake in the investigation of the car insurance claim, according to the Insurance Fraud Enforcement Department. “This fraud is forcing insurance companies to increase vehicle insurance premiums,” said researcher Adam Maskel.

The gang’s two masterminds had claimed to insurance companies from December 2015 to October 2016 that a bill costing $573,246 was spent on repairing 39 car accidents. Accounts were opened in various banks to receive the claim payment.

During this period, the insurance company sent $667,885 as claims to these bank accounts. In this way, they used to transfer the money sent to the bank account to another bank account.

Raju Patel and Kamlesh Bhaduku, the masterminds of the vehicle insurance fraud, were sentenced to five years and four years and one month in jail by birmingham crown court last month. Other members of the group were also sentenced to one year in prison.

At present, all members of the gang have been sent to jail. –agency
