Kathmandu. Finance Minister and AIIB Governor of Nepal Dr. Swarnim Wagle and the Chairman of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) Governors’ Council met in Doha on Monday. <\/p>\n
During the meeting held in Doha, Qatar, Finance Minister Wagle urged ADB President Zhou Jiayi to help expand investment, reconstruction after natural disasters and access concessional finance. <\/p>\n
During the meeting, AIIB President Zhou expressed her deepest condolences for the human and material losses suffered by Nepal due to the recent devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi River. She pledged to provide all possible support from the bank in the post-disaster reconstruction. <\/p>\n
President Zhou said that the bank will provide grant assistance for project preparation through the Project Preparation Specialized Fund. He also said that the loan given by AIIB to Nepal can be maintained at the maximum concessional interest rate by using the grant under the Specialized Fund Window. He also pledged to move forward by working more collaboratively for the economic development of Nepal, a founding member of the AIIB. <\/p>\n
On the occasion, Finance Minister Wagle congratulated the new Chairman Zhou and thanked the bank for the support it has been providing to Nepal as a founding member. He urged the government to expedite the completion of the study of the Electricity Distribution System Improvement and Expansion Project and the Express Road. He also expressed sorrow over the damage caused by the floods to the Upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project, which is invested by the Bank. <\/p>\n
On the occasion, Finance Minister Wagle urged the banks to mobilize their own resources as well as those of other donor agencies for the development of green energy, cross-border power transmission lines, road infrastructures and digital infrastructure under the medium-term and long-term cooperation. <\/p>\n
