Kathmandu. Prime Minister Balendra Shah and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres met on Thursday. <\/p>\n
Prime Minister Shah, who is in New York to attend the high-level week of the 81st United Nations General Assembly, met with Secretary-General Guterres at the UN headquarters at 6:30 pm local time (4:15 am Nepali time) before addressing the UNGA. Secretary-General Guterres expressed deep condolences for the loss of life and property in the Bhotekoshi disaster and said that the United Nations stands in solidarity with Nepal on climate issues. <\/p>\n
Secretary-General Guterres also praised the young Nepali delegation. Recalling that he came to Nepal in 1978 as a tourist, Guterres pledged to continue to support Nepal even after retiring from office. <\/p>\n
Prime Minister Shah thanked Secretary-General Guterres for his goodwill towards Nepal and congratulated him for his successful tenure. Stating that Nepal has suffered a huge loss due to the Bhotekoshi disaster, he said that the risk of glacial lake bursting is still high. <\/p>\n
During the meeting, the issues of rehabilitation of the people living along the river and green reconstruction were discussed.
