Kathmandu. The Special Court has sought a bail of Rs 50 lakh from the then Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Himalayan Reinsurance Company, Upasana Poudel, who has been accused in the money laundering case. <\/p>\n
After 18 days of police custody, she was released on bail after the order of the special court on Monday, but she has been kept in police custody as the case against her is sub judice in other courts. Paudel was arrested by the Nepal Police from Babarmahal on September 26. <\/p>\n
After the special court demanded a bail of Rs 50 lakh from Poudel after the detention hearing in the case related to money laundering against Poudel on Monday, she had provided a bank guarantee equivalent to that amount. A division bench of Justices Basudev Acharya, Hemanta Rawal and Dilliratna Shrestha sought bail from Poudel in the money laundering case. <\/p>\n
Apart from money laundering, a case is pending against Paudel on charges related to insurance, banking offences and securities offences. During the investigation in the case related to money laundering against businessman Deepak Bhatta, the Special and District Attorney’s Office had filed a charge sheet against him and more than 3 dozen people. <\/p>\n
She had gone to India for treatment citing health problems even before the charge sheet was filed in the court on June 12. The public prosecutor’s office had declared her an absconding accused after she failed to appear for statement despite repeated notices.
