The U.S. Mint on Wednesday released a $1 coin with Trump’s image and the words “Liberty” and “In God We Trust.” The coin was released to mark the 250th anniversary of America’s independence. <\/p>\n
The U.S. Mint, which prints the currency, said the coins were not used for everyday use but were sold for collectibles. The law prohibits living presidents from appearing in U.S. currency. However, this rule has been violated by using design provisions in a special law made for anniversaries. <\/p>\n
The coins were also sold at vending machines. A roll of 25 coins was priced at $61 and a bag of 100 coins was priced at $154.50. Within a few hours of being sold, these coins were shown as ‘out of stock’ on the mint’s website. However, the website says more coins are being produced. <\/p>\n
The coins were also being sold at vending machines at the American Mint outlet in Washington, D.C. The U.S. Mint said the coins were created to celebrate the country’s historic achievements. It said, “This is a design designed for the anniversary. Which will get a special place in the modern coin collection.” \u2019<\/p>\n
These coins are golden in color but do not include real gold. According to the U.S. Mint, they are made up of 88.5 percent copper. The rest is made of zinc, nickel and manganese brass on the outer layer. <\/p>\n
