Kathmandu. China has decided to spend a large chunk of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHINF) in a bid to strengthen community-level health services and reduce the cost of out-of-pocket medical treatment for its citizens. <\/p>\n
According to the joint guidelines issued by China’s National Health Security Administration and two other government departments, it has been decided to increase the annual health insurance fund to primary health centers and community hospitals. <\/p>\n
This policy has been introduced to solve the problem of excessive pressure of patients in big hospitals and lack of resources and medicines in community institutions. <\/p>\n
The insurance premium will be reduced to at least 50 percent for outpatient treatment or outpatient services, which will encourage patients to get treatment at primary health centers. Patients with chronic diseases can get a prescription for up to 12 weeks at a time. <\/p>\n
The insurance amount saved in the district-level health systems will be used on priority for primary health institutions and frontline health workers. Larger and district-level hospitals will care only for acute and critical illnesses, while community clinics will provide general ailment, chronic illness, rehabilitation, and nursing services. <\/p>\n
The directive has made arrangements to facilitate the supply of essential medicines to the primary health centers through the Central Drug Purchase System. In addition, facial recognition technology will be used to make insurance payments easier. <\/p>\n
By the end of 2025, there were 1.06 million primary health facilities and 5.25 million health workers across China. The new system will be tested in 15 areas before rolling it out nationwide.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
