South Korean companies, grappling with growing concerns about workplace injuries and a tighter regulatory environment, are increasingly focusing on insurance and risk shifting solutions.

According to a recent Aon survey, workplace safety issues have become a priority amid strict enforcement of the Serious Accident Punishment Act. As a result, many businesses have been forced to review how they protect themselves from potential liabilities.

Aon’s 2025 Global Risk Management Survey covered nearly 3,000 organizations in more than 60 countries. The survey shows that 64.3 percent of South Korean respondents already have a formal plan or review process in place to address work-related injuries. More significantly, 57.1 percent said they were actively considering insurance products or other risk transfer methods. So that these risks can be managed better going forward.

Competition has been, and will continue to be, a top concern for these institutions. Half of South Korean respondents said they suffered financial losses due to competitive pressures. This is significantly higher than the Asia-Pacific and global averages. Still, surprisingly, only about 17.4 percent have structured plans to address market competition risks.

The survey also pointed to a growing awareness of other risks. Natural disasters have risen in the rankings after last year’s significant economic damage caused by forest fires and floods. Liquidity and cash flow concerns have rejoined the top 10 risks for the first time since 2019.

Another positive development is that companies seem to be much better prepared when it comes to liquidity management. About 79 percent have formal procedures in place.

Large enterprise risk management in South Korea still shows room for growth. Only a quarter of organizations said they use a comprehensive, company-wide approach to identify key risks and only 2.9 percent rely on quantitative analysis to model scenarios or shape their insurance strategy.

As regulatory scrutiny intensifies and operating pressures mount, experts suggest that many firms may be looking for better insurance coverage not only for workplace injuries but also to build overall resilience. This shift could signal a mature outlook for risk in one of Asia’s fastest-growing economies. –Agency

Kathmandu.
