Kathmandu. The US federal court has dealt a major blow to the Trump administration. The Supreme Court has temporarily blocked the Trump administration from revoking the work permits of thousands of refugees and immigrants with Temporary Protected Status (TPS). <\/p>\n
The ruling was handed down by U.S. District Judge Nathaniel Gorton in Boston. A coalition of immigrant rights groups and labor unions filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration’s order. <\/p>\n
The coalition filed a lawsuit to block US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) from enforcing policies enacted by Congress last year to impose new immigration restrictions. Gorton’s order will remain in effect until a decision is made on whether to impose a permanent moratorium on Trump administration policy. <\/p>\n
The judge said he would issue a decision by August 5. <\/p>\n
Trump’s signature tax and spending law was passed by the Republican-led Congress in July 2025. This law for the first time imposed a fee on asylum applications and prohibited employment authorization for those with Temporary Protected Status (TPS). This status allows immigrants from countries experiencing war, natural disasters or other crises to live and work in the U.S. until it is safe to return home. <\/p>\n
