Unfortunately, investors have felt that they have not been prioritized by the government and the concerned authorities for a long time.

Many investors believe that the government is treating the stock market and investors not as its own children but as “stepmothers and their children”. From the outside, there seems to be interest in the market, but in practice, there is a lack of concrete confidence decisions and policy reforms. If the government, the Ministry of Finance and the relevant regulatory bodies had really committed to the market and acted actively, the market would not have suffered such a huge loss.

In the recent formulation of public monetary policy, many investors have complained that their voices and suggestions have not been heard properly. Therefore, a question has arisen in the minds of many – does the government consider the stock market as an important pillar of the economy or is it still looking at it with suspicion?

Ironically, many could not have imagined that a government formed by the people of this country would create an environment that would weaken the confidence of its own investors. In most countries of the world, capital markets are protected and encouraged as an important basis of economic development. In Nepal, the perception that the opposite is being felt is becoming stronger.

However, the Prime Minister’s interest in the stock market in recent days has given some hope to the investors. But mere expressions and assurances are not enough. It is not just words that restore trust, but policy decisions and actions.

Now all eyes are on the market. Whether the Prime Minister’s concern boosts investor confidence or not, the answer will not be given by any speech, but by the market. In particular, tomorrow’s trading will give you an indication of where investor psychology is headed.

To restore confidence in the stock market, the government must now send a concrete message through clear policies, stable vision and investor-friendly decisions. This is the biggest need of the day.

(The writer has been an active investor in the stock market for a long time.) )

Prem Wali Nepal’s stock market today is not just a game of numbers, but it is also a matter of hard work, savings and future of millions of common people.
