Kathmandu, July 7: Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has made public the annual review report of the monetary policy for the fiscal year 2082\/83 BS. The central bank has made public the report after evaluating and overall reviewing the monetary policy adopted and implemented in the previous fiscal year as per the Clause 94 (A) of the Rastra Bank Act, 2058 BS. <\/p>\n<p>According to the annual review report of the monetary policy, the interest rate corridor has been narrowed with the objective of keeping the policy rate in the middle of the corridor by gradually reducing the distance between the lower and upper limits of the interest rate corridor. <\/p>\n<p>According to the annual review report of the Monetary Policy for the fiscal year 2082\/83, the interest rate of the permanent liquidity facility as the upper limit of the interest rate corridor was fixed at 6.0 percent, the interest rate for the lower limit permanent deposit facility was fixed at 2.75 percent and the policy rate was 4.50 percent. <\/p>\n<p>As an operating target, the weighted average interbank rate was targeted to be kept at par with the policy rate. The weighted average interbank rate was 2.75 percent in April 2008. <\/p>\n<p>According to the provisions of the Monetary Policy, rule-based open market trading has been conducted for the management of liquidity. Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) debentures have been issued for the management of structural liquidity in the banking system, in addition to the regular monetary instruments. <\/p>\n<p>The &#8216;A&#8217; class commercial banks should disburse at least 10 percent of the total credit credit to the agriculture sector and 20 percent to other specified sectors, while the &#8216;B&#8217; class financial institutions should disburse at least 20 percent of the total credit and credit to the &#8216;C&#8217; class financial institutions in the specified areas from mid-January 2083 BS \u0964 <\/p>\n<p>Similarly, the limit of loan for the construction and purchase of private residential houses has been increased from Rs 20 million to Rs 3 crore. The loan-to-value ratio can be set up to a maximum of 80 percent for the first house and up to 70 percent in the case of others. <\/p>\n<p>In order to facilitate the small and medium enterprises to get transaction-based loans, the policy arrangement has been made to provide loans up to Rs 1 million through electronic medium by amending the &#8216;Directive on Lending through Electronic Means, 2078&#8217;.
