Kathmandu. Thousands of football fans from around the world who travelled to Canada to watch the FIFA World Cup match in time for the 2026 FIFA World Cup were rejected. <\/p>\n

According to data from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), about 17,000 visitor applications related to the World Cup were processed between November 14, 2025 and March 31, 2026. However, only 41 percent approved. <\/p>\n

The highest number of applications came from Ghana. A total of 1,725 Ghanaian fans had applied to watch their team’s match against Panama in Toronto. However, only 185 of them received visas. That’s about 89 percent of the rejected applications. <\/p>\n

The situation of Pakistani applicants was particularly pathetic. Out of a total of 1,250 applications, only 110 were approved. While 1,140 were rejected. <\/p>\n

Out of 1,225 applications received from India, 355 were approved. While 870 visas were rejected. <\/p>\n

A total of 60 people had applied for visas from Nepal. Of them, 20 have been approved and 40 have been rejected, according to IRCC data. <\/p>\n

Colombian fans, by contrast, were relieved. The Colombian team is not playing any group stage matches in Canada. However, out of 1,630 applications received from there, 1,130 were approved. Of the 910 applications, 850 were approved. Panama was one of the best-performing countries. <\/p>\n

According to IRCC, travelers will need a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) or Electronic Travel Authorization (e-TA) to enter Canada. The e-TA process is relatively simple and fast. While the visit visa requires itinerary, financial documents and other proof. <\/p>\n

The data showed that the acceptance rate of citizens of e-TA eligible countries was 96 percent. Whereas only 32 percent of visas were required for countries. <\/p>\n

All applications were approved from countries such as Australia, Germany, Croatia and New Zealand. None of the visas were received from Syria, Uganda and Sri Lanka. <\/p>\n

“Canada looks forward to welcoming players, officials, media representatives and fans from around the world during the FIFA World Cup 2026,” the company said in a statement. However, there will be no compromise on security and immigration rules. <\/p>\n

Countries where all applications were rejected<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Syria, Uganda, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Yemen, Libya, Afghanistan, Cuba, Mali, the People’s Republic of the Congo, Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone and Tanzania did not get visas. <\/p>\n
