Kathmandu. TAG_CLOSE_b_6 The government has warned of stern action if health institutions and various commercial establishments are found exploiting workers in violation of the Labor Act. Issuing a press release, the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security said that its serious attention has been drawn towards the fact that doctors, nursing staff and other employees were made to work without agreement and overtime. <\/p>\n
According to the Ministry, in recent times, complaints have been received that various hospitals and establishments have been depriving the workers of even the minimum rights by flouting the prevailing laws.TAG_OPEN_p_12 <\/b><\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The Ministry has clarified the main points of the Labour Act, 2074 BS. No worker shall be employed without a written agreement between the employer and the worker regarding services, terms and facilities. The appointment letter will also be considered as part of the agreement. Generally, workers are not allowed to work more than 8 hours a day and 48 hours a week. \u00a0As per the law, no one can work more than 4 hours a day and 24 hours a week if they have to work overtime. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
{{TAG_OPEN_p_10} Doctors, health workers and trainees working in various health institutions had complained to the Ministry alleging that they were employed without contract and were given excessive workload. The ministry has taken this step on the basis of this complaint. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The Ministry has requested all employers and workers to fully comply with the prevailing labor laws.TAG_OPEN_p_9 “Stern legal action will be taken as per the Labour Act, 2074 if anyone is found violating the prevailing laws,” TAG_OPEN_i_7 the statement reads. “<\/i><\/p>\n<\/p>\n
