China has taken a big step. China has decided to remove tariffs on imports from almost all African countries from May 1.

Chinese President Xi Jinping made the announcement to Chinese media. The move is aimed at deepening trade and economic ties between Beijing and the continent.

China already has a zero-tariff policy for imports from 33 African countries. Last year, however, Beijing announced it would extend the policy to all 53 African countries. With whom it has diplomatic relations.

China’s move is significant. It also has ties to India and the United States. In fact, it comes at a time when India is rapidly signing trade deals with many countries, including the US and European countries.

China’s latest move is a message to India. This indicates a change in China’s position. This shows that China will bring more flexibility in its trade policies.

India has a huge trade deficit with China. Indian goods imported into China generally face customs duties ranging from 5 per cent to 35 per cent.

Zero fee for all African countries

}

Under China’s expanded framework, zero tariffs will apply to all African countries except Eswatini. This comes after US President Donald Trump imposed heavy tariffs last year. China’s move also sends a message to Trump. The message is that without America, the world can build new alliances.

Xi Jinping has said that the zero-tariff regime will provide new opportunities for African development. He made the announcement when African leaders gathered in Ethiopia for the annual African Union summit.

Expanding duty-free access will strengthen China’s economic influence in Africa. It will also boost trade flows and market access for African exporters.

This policy will make it easier for African countries to do business with China. This will allow their products to enter the Chinese market easily. It is also an important opportunity for African countries. –agency

Kathmandu.
