Amid global tensions and ongoing conflicts in different parts of the world, scientists have moved the Doomsday Clock closer to midnight. This is a sign that humanity is dangerously close to disaster.

Scientists have placed the Doomsday Clock 85 seconds before midnight. This is the closest in its 80-year history. The announcement was made by the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists on Tuesday. Scientists say the threat of nuclear war and the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence have reached an alarming point.

Short Time with Humanity

}

Alexandra Bell, president of the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists, said after the clock was updated four seconds earlier in Washington, D.C., “The message of the Doomsday Clock cannot be clearer. The risk of disaster is increasing, aid is dwindling, and we are running out of time.

Growing threat of nuclear weapons{

}

According to President Bell, change is both necessary and possible. “But the world community must demand immediate action from its leaders,” Bell said. That’s why we’re moving the clock. The threats we face from nuclear weapons, climate change, and harmful technologies are all increasing. Every second is precious and we are running out of time. It’s a harsh reality. ’

Daniel Holz, chairman of the Science and Safety Board, warned that a divided world could further weaken all of humanity. “The world’s major powers are becoming more aggressive and hostile,” the board said. As a result, hard-won global agreements are crumbling. This is increasing the existential threat. ’

“If the situation doesn’t change, the potential for disaster will increase,” Holz warned. ’

What is a doomsday clock?

The Doomsday Clock is a symbolic way of telling the world how close humanity is to self-destruct due to a man-made catastrophe. Midnight marks the point at which the earth is no longer inhabitable by humans. If the clock approaches midnight, it means that humanity is getting closer to its own destruction.

Last year, scientists set this clock 89 seconds away from midnight. On Tuesday, it was reduced by another 4 seconds. At the end of the Cold War, in 1991, the hands of the clock were placed at their furthest. –Agency

Kathmandu.
