Fitch Ratings has endorsed a “deterioration” outlook for the reinsurance sector. “However, this reflects moderately weak but still good operating conditions next year,” Fitch said, adding that record capital flows from traditional and alternative sources continue to outpace steady demand. \u2019<\/p>\n
Minor natural disaster damage, including calm Atlantic hurricane season and systematic California wildfire damage in 2025, also supported reinsurers’ softer pricing. “Overall pricing is broadly back to 2022 levels and well above 2018 lows. In loss-free placements, asset risk and regressive rates fell by 10 per cent to 20 per cent,” Fitch said. <\/p>\n
Cyber insurance rates have dropped by 15 per cent to 25 per cent. The rate of aviation insurance was slightly higher. Fitch said: “Increased competition is easing policy terms from the much tighter conditions seen in 2023.” Reinsurance companies are willing to offer fewer points of engagement and more coverage. \u2019<\/p>\n
The combined ratio and return on equity are expected to weaken slightly in 2026 due to lower pricing and higher loss costs. That can still be balanced to some extent by accurate pricing and supportive investment income. <\/p>\n
