Earth Jayanti and National Unity Day is being observed today. A public holiday has been declared throughout the country today on the occasion of the birth anniversary of King Prithvi Narayan Shah and the National Unity Day. Insurance companies, banks, government offices and share markets will also be closed on the occasion. <\/p>\n<p>Born in 1779 BS, today is the 304th birth anniversary of Shah. The statue of Prithvi Narayan is garlanded in front of the western gate of the main administrative building, Singha Durbar, in recognition of his contribution to the unification of modern Nepal. <\/p>\n<p>This day is celebrated every year in Gorkha, the birthplace of Shah. On the occasion of Prithvi Jayanti every year, the Nepal Army has been paying tribute to the Army by garlanding the statue at the Army Headquarters. <\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kathmandu.
