Kathmandu. Three new airlines will soon enter the domestic aviation market in India. <\/p>\n
The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has granted No Objection Certificate (NOC) to two more airlines, All Hind Air and Fly Express. \u00a0Shankha Air, headquartered in Uttar Pradesh, has already received the NOC. <\/p>\n
Air India and Indian Air are trying to reduce their dominance in the domestic aviation market. <\/p>\n
In India, IndiGo and Air India together control more than 90 per cent of the domestic market, according to the Economic Times. IndiGo alone holds more than 65 per cent. That has raised concerns about the risk of over-reliance on a single air service provider. <\/p>\n
In early December, thousands of passengers could not reach their destinations after IndiGo Air cancelled its scheduled flights due to a lack of manpower. Even small children had to wait for the flight and had to stay at the airport for two days. <\/p>\n
India’s Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu confirmed the latest approval in a post on X on Tuesday. He said that the ministry has held meetings with the teams of Shankha Air, All Hind Air and FlyXpress. Among them, Shankha Air based in Uttar Pradesh is expected to start commercial flights from 2026. <\/p>\n
The entry of the new company is part of the Indian government’s broader efforts to increase competitiveness in the sector. Currently, there are nine domestic airlines operating in India. <\/p>\n
Under the government’s UDAN scheme, carriers including Star Air, India One Air and Fly91 have expanded services to smaller towns. It has helped to integrate them into the national aviation network. <\/p>\n
The current list of scheduled domestic airlines in India includes IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express, state-owned Alliance Air, Akasa Air, SpiceJet, Star Air, Fly91 and IndiaOne Air. <\/p>\n
Regional airline Flybig recently suspended its scheduled flights from October last year due to losses. Due to losses a few years ago, carriers such as Jet Airways and GoFirst shut down operations due to loans and operational challenges.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
